FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA—STEP VA Inc., the local 501(c)3 nonprofit that “empowers people with disabilities, and their families, through artistic expression and sensory exploration,” is set to announce its 2025 spring musical at the close of the Family Dance and Crafts night on August 22.
The 2025 show will be the organization's fourth licensed musical, following the original, in-house musical “A Special COVID-19,” in 2021.
A selection committee comprising 14 STEP VA participants, ranging from middle school-age to adults, worked together to narrow down options. The committee then presented four options to the production team, which made the final choice and contacted the licensing organization for approval.
Now that the choice has been approved, STEP VA officials will be announcing the selection at the Family Dance and Craft night, being held at Riverside First Church of God. The event consists of one hour of organized dancing—musical theater for this particular event—followed by arts and crafts for the participants. Corresponding classes are offered at the same time for parents and siblings of participants. Any prior STEP VA participant or community member with a disability is welcome to join. The musical will be announced at the end of the evening. Those who are unable to join the classes but want to find out first-hand which show STEP VA will be performing in the spring should arrive before 7:45 p.m.
The musical is currently scheduled for April 12-13, 2025 at Courtland High School.
